At Sri Sai Trust, we believe in the power of perseverance, faith, and service to humanity. Today, we share the remarkable story of two sisters, Kinjal Singh and Pranjal Singh, whose unwavering determination and courage transformed personal tragedy into a beacon of hope and pride for our nation.

A Tragic Beginning in Madapur

The story begins on March 12, 1982, in the village of Madapur, Gonda districtUttar PradeshDSP S.P. Singh, a dedicated police officer, went on a night operation after receiving information about criminals. Tragically, he was killed in a staged encounter by his own subordinates, who harbored resentment against him. His last words were a plea for his life, reminding us of his love for his two young daughters.

A Mother’s Relentless Fight for Justice

Vibha Singh, the widow of DSP Singh, faced unimaginable grief and hardship. Despite receiving only a small government job and little support, she courageously fought for justice. She approached the High Court, and after a long legal battle, the case was transferred to the CBI. Years later, the court convicted eight police officers involved in the crime, proving the truth of her claims.

The Sisters’ Path of Perseverance and Excellence

Kinjal and Pranjal grew up in a single-parent household, facing financial struggles and societal challenges. Inspired by their father’s dedication and their mother’s courage, they committed themselves to education and service.

  • Kinjal Singh earned a seat at the prestigious Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi.
  • During her first year, she learned of her mother’s cancer diagnosis but excelled academically, topping her university exams and winning a gold medal.
  • At their mother’s deathbed, the sisters promised to crack the UPSC exams and serve the nation.

In 2004, they moved to Delhi, living in a small room in Mukherjee Nagar, dedicating themselves fully to their UPSC preparation. They sacrificed celebrations, rest, and social life, becoming each other’s strength and inspiration.

Triumph and National Pride

In 2007, their perseverance bore fruit: Kinjal Singh became an IAS officer, and Pranjal Singh became an IRS officer. Their success is not just a personal achievement but a testament to resilience, justice, and the power of determination.

When the court verdict was announced, Kinjal, then the District Collector and Magistrate of Lakhimpur Kheri, was overwhelmed with emotion, a moment that symbolized the victory of truth and justice.

Lessons from Their Journey

The story of Kinjal and Pranjal Singh teaches us:

  • Education is a powerful tool that lights the path even in the darkest times.
  • Perseverance can turn “impossible” into “achieved.”
  • Standing up for justice, even when delayed, is always worth the fight.
