DONATE FOR SST

Earning wealth is one of the primary aims of human life. Wealth in all its forms, whether it is wealth of knowledge or material wealth, should be spent for dharmic purposes only. One should earn it through rightful means and spend it for rightful ends, without ignoring his own welfare and happiness. One should give away a good part of it in charity.

Spending the money for the welfare of others, is the beginning step in our practice for detachment. Whatever may be our financial status, We should spend a little portion of that in the service of others. Children naturally love to help others, so nurturing their innate generosity is likely to mean that they grow up with a greater appreciation of what they have, and will carry on supporting charity in years to come.

This trend is expected to continue as individuals are becoming increasingly familiar with the payment methods and are realising the convenience of making payments digitally.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has changed the way payments are being made in the country through UPI. Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is an immediate real-time payment system that powers multiple bank accounts into a single mobile application (of any participating bank), merging several banking features and helps in instantly transferring the funds between the two bank accounts. It enabled us to make payments from anywhere, anytime seamlessly. The money transfer via UPI works on a 24x7 basis.

Some of the commonly used apps offering payment via UPI method are BHIM, which is developed by NPCI, and there are some private players as well such as Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe, Amazon Pay etc. You can check the list of UPI apps by clicking here.
  3. One must make sure that his/her mobile number has got registered with his/her bank account for the purpose of verification.

Know More About Charity

Charity is purifying. Practice charity. It gradually leads to detachment and inner cleansing.
  • Who deserves Charity?
  • Giving Charity is always a good thing. But....
  • How much should we give in Charity?

Many of us think that we have done charity by sharing our belongings with our friends and relatives who are not poor and the needy. Donating to kith and kin is not called charity. It is merely a form of fulfilling one's social obligations and does not bestow any social merit to the donor.

Charity is that which is given to the following worthy recipients:

  • For destitutes
  • For the poor and the needy
  • For the disabled and
  • For all creatures
people donate with love

In the past, people thought it was their religious duty to give charity to the poor. Therefore, one who desires his own progress should always give alms to any of the above mentioned groups. It is quite useless to give charity to a rich person because he has no use for it, just like no one administers medicine to a healthy person.

But we should be careful about the people for whom we are donating.

Giving charity to evil people, knowing very well that they will use the donations that they have collected for evil purposes is not the right thing to do. The giver of such a charity gets bad Karma. Therefore, we should always try to do a background check on the person or organisation who asks us for help.

Secondly, we should not give charity if it is promoting laziness, a feeling of entitlement and lethargy in the society. The story of King Bali and Yudhishthira shows how one should try to help people become financially independent (so that they do not have to keep asking for help) instead of just giving to them whenever they come begging. We should also be careful and not to give charity to thieves and other law-breaking people.

In fact, Generosity is the basic quality of humans. Everyone will have the motto to be generous in some corner of our heart and mind. But, for donating, many people will have obligations like,

  • For charity we need to donate large amounts of money,
  • What ever we get is not up to the mark for us to live in such a case how we can do charity with donation?
Quote

Giving at least something is better than giving nothing. Good charity is the one in which the giver donates things that are precious and dear to him with love. The proverb rightly says "charity begins at home". We have our children, spouse, elderly parents etc., who are dependent on us and they have the first right on our wealth. Only after providing for them can we go ahead and give the rest away in charity. If you cannot give away money in charity, use your knowledge, wisdom or physical energy to help others.
